Surface Pattern Design Guild in Berkeley California

It was educational and enjoyable to attend the September meeting of the Surface Pattern Design Guild (SPDG) when I was in the San Francisco area for the last 2 weeks. Thank you to guild member Jill Turney for the excellent presentation of her recent design projects which included a beautiful lino cut she had designed for home exteriors and a homeware project in collaboration with a sustainable Swedish wood supplier. Also many thanks to guild member Amido Rankin who was down-s

    Lauren Jacobsen Interior Design

An influential interior designer in Los Angeles has featured several of my designs in her blog. Lauren Jacobsen is an expert at blending historic styles with modern features and trends. She noticed how I have taken the traditional paisley form and adapted it to create contemporary fashion and furnishing fabrics. Lauren states in her blog: "Designers, such as Patrick Moriarty in the UK, are doing a great job of incorporating modern and organic elements and color schemes into t

    Fashion Rat Bag

A new customer had a few specific requirements before she ordered one of my paisley "rat bags". She asked for strap attachments so that she wouldn't lose the bag when she went to concerts. She also had a preference for the type of fabric used for the lining. I was happy to try and make her bag according to all her specifications. I managed to find the right attachments for the strap and I printed the fabric she preferred for the lining, which was my William Morris style patte

    Happy Winner

First day of the Christmas Craft Fair today at The Plasterwork Studio, Southend, Essex. Great to see lots of local designers and makers with fabrics, ceramics, knitwear and other stylish handmade products. Penelope Barritt was one of the winners in the Paisley Power "Guess the paisley celebrity" competition and she chose a rat-pattern cushion as her prize. She also decided to buy one, so now she will have two in her home. She brought her dog George with her today who was wear

    Rat Wrap

Before you turn away in horror, a rat wrap is not a lunchtime snack, it's wrapping paper printed with my unique hand-drawn paisley rat pattern. Today a customer has ordered a roll of satin gift wrap with the rat print. This is the first ever order of any of my designs as gift wrap. All of the designs available in my Paisley Power Spoonflower shop can be ordered as fabrics, wallpaper or gift wrap. We all appreciate a carefully wrapped present, especially with thoughtfully chos

    Colour Choices

TAP is an arts workshop/studio/gallery in Southend where I do my printing. We are adapting our print table so we can achieve screen registration to enable printing in several colours with several screens. At first we will try just using 2 screens so here are my colour combinations for my design "Elephant Stone". If you have a preference, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We will be printing them on fabric. #screenprint #colour #elephant #elephantstone #colourcombi

Flattered to have a blog site (Tweedland) (2 million views), using most of my "The History of the Paisley Symbol and Paisley Pattern" website page for a feature on paisley fabrics. The editor António Sérgio Rosa de Carvalho, Architectural Historian, has credited and linked the info to my website which i am grateful for. Rats and butterflies in the ancient priory

I really enjoyed the Victorian Christmas craft fair held at the Prittlewell Priory (Southend-on-sea, Essex, UK), founded my monks in the 12th century (that's the priory, not the craft fair). I sold lots of my rat and butterfly screenprints including new prints with silver ink. It was great to see my university pal, textile expert Steven Bakewell and partner who drove down from London with friends. It was my first ever craft fair so was very useful to meet the organisers and a
